Asghar Khan case: PTI jumps on ‘Sharifs bashing bandwagon’
LAHORE, Nov 8: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf has lambasted PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for betraying people’s mandate for a few bucks.
It says Pakistani politics must be cleansed and the Election Commission of Pakistan should ban him from participating in political activities for life.
This was a unanimous opinion among PTI top leadership at party’s Political and Strategy Committee central body meeting chaired by party chief Imran Khan here on Thursday.
The central body strongly endorsed the Supreme Court judgment on Asghar Khan case, terming it historic amidst hope that it would end the role of agencies in manoeuvring election results.
The meeting was participated by party’s vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, central information secretary Shafqat Mahmood and other central leaders, while Asad Umar from Karachi and Pervaiz Khattak from Islamabad joined through video link.
The meeting resolved that the Supreme Court verdict had exposed the true face of Nawaz Sharif, who betrayed people’s mandate for a few rupees. The PTI leaders said Nawaz Sharif had disguised himself in the garb of a politician, but in reality he deceived the people of Pakistan by minting money.
“The Sharifs should give up their party positions to face legal proceedings as those accused should not hold positions of power that can be used to manipulate the outcome of the investigations,” said Imran Khan.
He hoped that the decision would bring to an end the political role of the agencies and demanded that the ECP should ban all the politicians from participating in political activities, who had allegedly received money from the military top brass to influence electoral results.
The central committee said the Supreme Court had played its part and it was up to the institutions concerned to implement the decision. The culprits should be
punished and justice ensured before the coming elections.
It said the Supreme Court decision should be implemented on all elections. “Surely, the punishment of the wrongdoers in this case would be a significant deterrent to future adventurers in armed forces,” the committee resolved. The meeting discussed PTI’s strategy for the next general elections.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Imran Khan would soon start a country-wide mass contact campaign, wherein each unit would be mobilised. The meeting approved a number of steps to further activate the party movement in different areas.
The PTI leaders from Karachi and Islamabad briefed the participants about party activities in their respective areas. The central body also finalised different policy matters to be implemented in coming days.
Shafqat Mahmood said the party had also finalised that intra-party elections would begin from Islamabad on Nov 18.
