SUKKUR, Nov 8: A jirga settled a karo-kari dispute between the Shaikh and Thaheem communities in Goth Dari Sundrani near Ghouspur in Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Thursday.

Four months ago, a man named Akbar Shaikh had taken away a woman of the Thaheem community, Gul Jahan, from Ghouspur. Later, when the woman was returned because of tremendous pressure from her community, she was declared kari.

Reports reaching here said the jirga, presided over by Mir Abid Khan Sundrani, heard both sides. It was proved that Akbar was guilty and the jirga imposed Rs1 million fine on him to be paid in three monthly instalments to the woman’s relative Nizam Thaheem.

The two parties accepted the decision and hugged each other.
