Plea against doctors disposed of
LAHORE, Nov 8: The Lahore High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition seeking action against young doctors for refusing to attend patients at public sector hospitals and holding protests for fulfillment of their demand about service structure.
A law officer told the court that the dispute about demands of young doctors had been resolved amicably and a notification in this regard issued. The Young Doctors Association had also called off its protest, he said.
About the murder case against young doctors, the law officer said the investigating officer had prepared a report for the cancellation of the FIR. He said the case registered against eight doctors of Mayo Hospital would be cancelled according to the law soon.
At this the counsel for the YDA withdrew petition for the cancellation of the murder case.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan disposed of the matter and advised the young doctors not to adopt the way of agitation in future. He observed that the petitioner could file an application to seek a detailed judgment in the case.
The Judicial Activism Panel had filed the petition against young doctors.
Plea dismissed
The Lahore High Court chief justice dismissed a petition challenging a contempt of court petition against President Asif Ali Zardari for not relinquishing political office of PPP co-chairman.
The chief justice took up the petition as an “objection case” as the registrar office had already declared the petition not maintainable. He upheld the objection and dismissed the petition.
Advocate Afaq Ahmad had filed this petition saying after the judgment passed by the Supreme Court in Asghar Khan case, there was no need of further hearing by the high court on the contempt petition. The SC had already explained political status of the office of the president, he said.
The petitioner pointed out that the parliament never objected to the political office held by the president. He also objected to the locus standi of the petitioner in the contempt of court petition saying it was not filed by an aggrieved party/person.
Advocate Ahmad, therefore, prayed to the court to dismiss the contempt petition against President Zardari being non-maintainable.
