A promise

This is with reference to the story A promise by Yasmin Elahi (YW, October, 20, 2012). It was a wonderful story that made us realise the importance of a promise! It’s true that only those people succeed in lives who fulfil their promises wholeheartedly.

This is with reference to the story A promise is a promise by Yasmin Elahi (YW, October 20, 2012). First, I would like to thank the YW team for leading the young generation to the right path by publishing such thought-provoking articles.

It is sad that we don’t often realise the importance of a promise. This article made all of us realise the significance of fulfilling a commitment. I request the YW team to continue publishing such useful articles.

Issues faced by Pakistan

Pakistan has been going through very tough times. It has been facing major issues like energy crisis, illiteracy, unemployment and of course, price hike! The life of a poor man is no less than a nightmare! Terrorism has further ruined our image and now we are unsafe in our own homeland.

Everyone has now been waiting for a miracle! We want change — change in the entire system! But in order to change the system, first we have to change ourselves. We have to assess ourselves critically and try to get rid of our bad habits that have been contributing towards country’s destruction. We should expect our government to take care of the people but same applies to all of us. We too, should be caring for our fellow beings and must fulfil our duties towards our homeland. Only this way, we can change our country into a prosperous state.

Young minds

Gone are the days when young minds used to explore and sink in books of history, literature and arts. Today our young minds are diverted towards Facebook, Yahoo and downloading material from the web. And there are free phone calls packages that have made many youngsters addicted to long hours of talking in the cell and sending dozens of SMS each day.

Unfortunately, the long hours spent with cellphones and computers lead to nothing but frustration, infatuation and sometimes a lot of trouble of different kinds. Advancement in technology and e-facilities have tormented our minds and blinded our souls.

A clean Eidul Azha

Eidul Azha is a holy occasion which teaches us the lessons of following Allah’s command. We must celebrate this Eid with religious zeal and should not forget the lesson it gives!

During Eidul Azha, people slaughter animals and leave the leftovers on the streets and roads that makes our city very dirty and messy. Moreover, the remains produce unbearable smell which contributes to environmental degradation.

One must not forget that the essence of Eidul Azha is not only in slaughtering animals but also in caring for the needs of our fellow human beings. It is our responsibility to make as little mess as possible when slaughtering the animals and clean up right away so that others don’t have to face any difficulty due to the filth produced as a result of slaughtering.
