Malala a guiding light for cause of girls’ education: CM Hoti

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Saturday said that Malala Yousufzai, the schoolgirl shot in the head by members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was a guiding light for the cause of girls’ education not just in Pakistan but the world over, DawnNews reported.
In his message on Malala Day, the chief minister said that the child activist had become a symbol of peace and education.
He added that Malala’s sacrifice against terrorist forces was a source of pride for the Pakhtun nation.
Chief Minister Hoti said his government would employ education to defeat the extremist mindset, adding that, Malala’s services to the cause of girls’ education had been recognised across the world.
The 15-year-old is currently receiving specialist treatment in the English city of Birmingham after gunmen shot her on Oct 9 for standing up against the Taliban and openly advocating education for women.
The attack drew widespread international condemnation and with Malala becoming a powerful symbol of resistance to the Taliban’s attempts to suppress women’s rights.
Her shooting was the culmination of years of campaigning that had pitted the young girl against one of Pakistan’s most ruthless Taliban commanders, Mullah Fazlullah.
Fazlullah and his men had in the past taken over Malala’s native Swat Valley and blew up girls’ schools and publicly executed those they deemed immoral. An army offensive in Swat however forced many Taliban fighters to flee.
What about the 5 students that just got killed in Karachi? or does it only matter when the taliban are blamed?
It is very important that we salute the cause that Malala symbolizes. I definitely advocate for
a Nobel Prize to glorify the SYMBOL that Malala has left. This symbol is universal urgent
for the entire mankind – hindus, muslims, jews, christians …, particulary for those living in the
Islamic world. I also advocate for NO violence against Fazlullah and his men. Violence is not a remedy for violence. Pakistan must go to the bottom and undo the ignorence, illiteracy, and misunderstanding of the basic tenet of islam.
I have few heroes: Suu Kyi, Martin Luther King, Ghandi, John Lennon. I have added Malala to my list. She is a remarkable young lady with a natural charisma and bravery to lead others. I pray that she will remain in England and attend school there in preparation to lead her country forward.
You Pakistanis make slogans and think that the job is done. What a culture!
Mr. David thank you for your comments which are of great hope and encouragement for people who are victims of worst kind of terrorism. Education is the key to rational thinking, tolerance, human rights and coexistance with other people and that is what we need right now.
Is Pakistan so weak that it deperately need a girl to champion its cause .She too innocent and young to make her a larger than life figure.
