AHMEDABAD (India), Nov 10: Opener Nick Compton notched his second half-century of the match on Saturday as England reached 118-0 in their second innings after taking a 188-run first-innings lead over Haryana on the third day of a four-day practice game ahead of their Test series in India.

Compton scored an unbeaten 54, following his first-innings knock of 74. Trott was not out on 61 after being promoted to opener with captain Alastair Cook holding himself back.

Compton has so far struck seven fours and Trott 10 fours as England lead by 306 runs with all 10 second-innings wickets intact.

Earlier, opener Rahul Dewan carried Haryana to 333 all out by making 144 not out off 320 balls with 17 fours.

Dewan, who has been a regular on the domestic circuit for four seasons, saw wickets fall at regular intervals when the team resumed on their overnight score of 172-4 before he forged a 60-run ninth-wicket stand with Chanderpal Saini (35).

England pace bowlers Tim Bresnan and Stuart Meaker took three wickets each but the two left-arm spinners in the game could not make a breakthrough.

Monty Panesar managed just one wicket in 29 overs while Samit Patel took two in 16 overs.
