Paramedics block The Mall
LAHORE, Nov 13: Scores of paramedics staged a sit-in on Tuesday at Faisal Chowk near the Punjab Assembly in protest against the ‘indifferent attitude’ of the health authorities regarding their longstanding demand of service structure.
They continued their protest for two hours or so and raised slogans against the bureaucracy in health, finance and regulations departments for not initiating the process to devise a new service structure for paramedics despite assurances held out to them by the chief minister.
Earlier, several paramedics from state-run medical and health institutions of the provincial capital assembled at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital from where they marched towards the Punjab Assembly.
Punjab Paramedical Alliance Chairman Malik Munir said the government had entered an agreement with the doctors’ community for the provision of service structure but ignored paramedics.
The PPA office-bearers announced that they would continue their agitation till the acceptance of their legitimate and rightful demands.
Due to the protest, traffic came to a halt for some hours on The Mall and adjoining roads. — Staff Reporter
