Tepa told to make all traffic lights operative
LAHORE, Nov 13: Expressing his displeasure over dozens of traffic signals in the city lying out of order, Lahore Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik on Tuesday ordered the Traffic, Engineering and Planning Agency (Tepa) and other departments concerned to make all such signals operative within a week.
“I think that no one in the departments concerned seems serious to do this important job. But I tell you to accomplish this task within a week by involving the respective town municipal administration and other stakeholders,” he warned the officials while presiding over a meeting.
Tepa Chief Engineer Saeed Akhtar told the meeting that some of the traffic signals were either completely out of order or needed repairs.
The commissioner directed the officials to submit a detailed report to him soon, besides initiating work to make the faulty signals operative.
He said the town officials should also be involved in the task so that their capacity could be built for dealing with such issues.
LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema, City Traffic Officer Suhail Chaudhry and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
DEVELOPMENT: The city district administration on Tuesday sought completion of various on-going development schemes by December 31.
“All the officials should accelerate their efforts for completing various schemes relating to health, education and other sectors by Dec 31.
And if there is any hurdle, the officials should let me know,” DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said while presiding over a meeting here at the Town Hall.
He said he would soon start inspection of on-going schemes in the city in order to get the work geared up by the officials concerned.
Earlier, presiding over another meeting, Mengal directed the town administrators to hold “Peace Conferences” in their respective towns so as to maintain peace during Muharram.
