LAHORE, Nov 16: A financial irregularity of Rs3.5 billion has reportedly been detected during the audit of the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory by the director general audit, Punjab.

“Out of 3,500 vouchers of equipment and material purchased for the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory, audit of only 252 has so far been done and irregularities amounting to Rs3.54 billion have been pointed out,” Pakistan Muslim League central information secretary Senator Kamil Ali Agha said here on Friday.

He said the amount of irregularities might reach up to Rs13 billion by the time the audit of the remaining purchases would be complete.

Mr Agha claimed corruption would be found in almost all the Punjab government projects if an independent audit was carried out.

He said in only 33 per cent audit of Sasti Roti Scheme launched by the chief minister, a Rs1.25 billion corruption was unearthed.

He said the day a third-party audit of the Punjab Food Support Programme, Metro Bus project and laptops procurement was conducted, irregularities of billions of rupees would surface.
