Monal restaurant under scrutiny
ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: A commission constituted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to probe alleged corruption in Capital Development Authority (CDA) projects, summoned the record on Monal restaurant.
The court also directed chairman CDA to appear on November 26, to brief the commission members on the project.
Additional sessions judge Pervaizul Qadir Memon, secretary of the commission told the media that the commission had formally started probing the alleged “dubious dealings of the CDA officials” in awarding contracts to around 20 projects.
IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on September 10, hearing identical petitions against irregular allotments in the CDA filed by advocate Niazullah Niazi, barrister Zafarullah Khan and PPP Senator Babar Awan constituted the commission.
The judge observed a number of irregularities in the process of allotment of plots, commercial sites and award of contracts to different parties.
The commission headed by former Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan, retired judges Sakhi Mohammad Kahut and Baqir Ali Rana after summoning the record on Monal, adjourned the proceedings.
The commission would convene its next meeting at IHC on Nov 23.
Other projects under probe include construction of IJP road, allotment of plot to a private firm (BNP) for construction of a five star hotel, allotment of additional land to Centaurus for construction of grid station, allotment of plot to a private firm Minawa in sector F-10 where it constructed a high rise building, namely Park Tower and sold all its apartments without paying premium/cost of plot to CDA.
The commission would also examine the process of awarding the contract of light-emitting diode (LED) project worth Rs7.5 billion, Kuri model village project, double-road leading to ‘Bahira Enclave’, allotment of prime places at Rawal Dam, Saidpur model village, Gun Club, Diplomatic Enclave and other key locations.
Also award of contract for running diplomatic shuttle service, issuance of NOC and selling of land to private housing societies, award of contract for construction of Kashmir Highway, and projects for the extension of sector D-12, E-11 and Margalla Phase-II.
