GUJRANWALA, Nov 21: The Pakistan People’s Party MNA from NA-100 (Naushera Virkan) Tassadaq Hussain has resigned from the seat to protest non-completion of development projects in his constituency by the federal government.

Mr Hussain told Dawn on Wednesday that during his by-election campaign, then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had promised the federal government would get completed development projects in the constituency if people voted for him (Tassadaq Hussain).

He said contrary to Mr Gillani’s pledge, no project in the constituency was completed, so he decided to resign from the seat.

Meanwhile, sources said President Asif Ali Zardari, after coming to know about the resignation, invited Mr Hussain to the Presidency in Islamabad on Thursday (today) to personally hear him.

NA-100 was captured by PML-N candidate Mudassar Qayyum Nahara in 2008 general election, but he was later disqualified by Supreme Court for having a fake BA degree. The party then fielded Mudassar’s younger brother, Azar Qayyum Nahara, in the by-election who was defeated by the PPP candidate Tassadaq Hussain.
