HYDERABAD, Nov 22: The convenor of Sindh Bachayo Committee (SBC), Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, has said that a military operation in Sindh can be conducted but it should begin from the worst-affected area, Karachi. However, he added, such an operation should be carried out jointly with the police and Rangers.

Mr Shah was speaking at a press conference at his residence on Thursday to brief the media about the decision taken during the SBC meeting held earlier in the day. Dr Qadir Magsi, Ayaz Latif Palijo, Saleem Zia, Imtiaz Shaikh and Abrar Kazi were also present.

Expressing his concern over the deteriorating law and order in the country, the SBC convener said that the government had failed to establish its writ in much of the country and the resolutions adopted in the two houses of parliament regarding operations against terrorists and killers smacked of mala fide intentions.

He said that they also showed that the government was not serious in conducting a military operation in Karachi, adding that there would not have been any bloodshed had the state institutions been able to maintain peace in the city.

Mr Shah also announced that a ‘black day’ and wheel-jam strike would be observed on Nov 30 against the new local government system. He said the committee would organise a public meeting in Hyderabad on Dec 14.

They vowed to continue their struggle against the ‘black law’ and condemned the terrorist and sectarian attacks in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Quetta describing them as a consequence of the government’s failure.

Mr Shah said that the people of Sindh were united against the local government law and were continuing with their struggle but the government was ignoring their protests. He said that the protest on Nov 30, when all trade activities would remain suspended and government institutions stay closed, would be another message to the government that the masses opposed the LG law. He said that committees were formed to help make the ‘black day’ a great success and create awareness among people.

Mr Shah condemned the use of un-parliamentary language against women lawmakers in the provincial assembly by PPP ministers. “The so-called champions of democracy demonstrated such a conduct on the floor of the house which is highly condemnable,”

Mr Shah dissociated himself from a constitutional petition filed by an SBC member, Zamir Ghumro, in the apex court, and said that the SBC was working on one-point agenda i.e. repeal of the local government law.—Staff Correspondent
