Published November 23, 2012

KHAR, Nov 22: The Utmankhail tribe of Bajaur Agency has imposed ban on poppy cultivation in its area and assured the administration of full support to maintain peace and writ of the government in the region.

The decision was taken at a jirga held here on Thursday. A large number of elders belonging to different sub-tribes of Utmankhail attended the jirga. Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the jirga, the political agent said that cultivation of poppy was seriously affecting the country’s pride and dignity in the international community due to which the government had to ban its cultivation. — Correspondent
