KARACHI: As the search for Pakistan’s batting coach continues, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that it will not be hiring a batting coach until after the national team’s tour of India, according to reports in the media.
Pakistan will tour India without a batting coach and the appointment will be made before the tour to South Africa in January.
Pakistan’s recent batting failures at the World Twenty20 tournament have forced the country’s cricket board to search for a full-time batting coach.
“The board will not be sending a batting coach to India and it has been decided to make the appointment for the South Africa tour that begins in the third week of January,” a source was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
“The selection process for a batting coach is going to take time because we have received CVs of some very strong candidates even from abroad and within the country,” the source added.
Several former Pakistan players such as Zaheer Abbas, Saleem Malik and Inzamam ul Haq have offered their services as batting coach. However, the source dismissed their eligiblity for the post, saying they did not have the required experience.
“Inzamam, Zaheer and Salim Malik might be greats but they are not qualified coaches,” the source said.
However, Nadeem Sarwar, the media manager of the PCB, said while talking to Dawn.com that no decision had been taken about when the appointment of the batting coach will be finalised.
Dav Whatmore is currently the head coach of Pakistan with Mohammad Akram as the bowling coach.
Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf is interested in bringing former fast bowler Waqar Younis to the national cricket setup and get him involved with the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
“Informal discussions have been held on this subject when Waqar recently came down to Lahore to attend a meeting on how to improve domestic cricket and the productivity of the National Cricket Academy,” a source said.
“The chairman is impressed by Waqar’s background as a former player, captain and coach and feels he can contribute a lot to the efforts to modernise and introduce specialisation in Pakistan cricket at the domestic level.”

MR Chairman PCB , when a player is selected for national team he has to perform not to get coached at this level .This is very simple, not a rocket science for God sake, dont waist money on hiring so many coaches.
I strongly believe PCB should appoint a coach before the series with India as batting is the weakest link for Pakistan over the years.
Thank you Capt C M Khan,I asked this question to PCB Chairman so many times in the past that why you need so many coaches ,what Mr Whatmore is doing ,he is already a very expensive coach. How many coaches PCB had when Imran Khan was Captain. This is my humble request to President of Pakistan, please select some sensible and eligible test cricketer to run the PCB.The present management of PCB is look like a bunch of bananas working there with out having any clue.
coaching at this level is over rated. what they need is a good man manager and coaching should be left for early grooming where it actually makes a difference
If we need a coach, it’s a sports psychologist. In today’s day and age, the competition has become more fierce than ever before and the difference between different athletes is the discipline they put to the sports. In our country, school drop outs enter sports. They lack discipline in their daily lives. They perform based on their talent only. Our nation as a whole lacks discipline training.
Inzamam ul Haq is the perfact choice
In Pakistan we are placing he cart before the horse.
Pakistan needs FOREIGN SELECTORS…that is all. Who coached Imtiaz, Haneef, Zaheer, Miandad?????We donot need foreign coaches for anything, maybe we can hire one or two as ADVISERS. Problem in Pakistan is not coaching, we have enough talent in a popultaion of 200 million.
We need to stop Politics and PARCHEES those are RUINING our only enertainment. Foreign selectors will work for Pay and not for FAVOURS as our selectors do. They must stay in Pakistan and find the best 16 players, that is all..
I agree to some extent. Our selection committee is more often than not is either itself biased or under undue influence to select a particular group of players. The problem with foreign ppl is that they also get mixed up in this culture and focus on earning money and extending contract rather than delivering quality results. Unless we pay abusive salaries to very few honest and dedicated professionals like gary kristen, andy flower, ian chappel, john wright, etc, other foreigners will only use this opportunity to increase their experience and bag loads of money.
Instead of paying insane money, i think we have some honest professionals in our own country as well . If they are given the opportunity and are allowed to word with any undue influence and within themselves they do not start fighting, then our selection woes can be over. May be the head of selection committee should be a foreigner so that he can act as a neutral party
my suggestion for a dream selection committee
Head: gary kristen, andy flower, ian chappel, john wright, etc,
other members: salahuddin salu, rashid latif, abdul qadir, javed miandad, shoaib akhtar
I totally agree. Biggest Parchee in Pakistan Team ‘Shoaib Malik’
Coaching does not replace hard work and practice. Now a days everyone is looking for shortcut ways.
IT WOULD BE VERY NICE AND EFFECTIVE IF PCB APPOINTS LEGEND AND WORLD’S BEST SWINGER WASIM AKRAM AS HIS BOWLING COACH.
Wasim Akram has Refused a full time job with PCB Several TImes. He is making too much in India.
