Sindh Games arrangements discussed in key meeting
HYDERABAD, Nov 26: A meeting to discuss the arrangements for the upcoming 16th Sindh Games, which are scheduled to be held here from Dec 2-4, was held on Monday under the chairmanship of divisional Commissioner Hyderabad, Ahmed Bux Narejo.
Administrator Hyderabad Metropolitan Syed Barkat Ahmed Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Agha Shahnawaz Babar, Secretary Hyderabad Club Syed Rahat Ali, principal Public School, managing director Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Saleemuddin, district sports officer, representatives from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), education, health, works & communication and other departments attended the meeting.
The commissioner asked the management of provincial sports department not to compromise on quality of services and ensure best facilities for athletes as far as the logistics are concerned. He asked them to hire private accommodation for the boarding and lodging of the athletes in case the government facilities prove insufficient.
He instructed the officials to take special care of female athletes and ensure facilities as per requirement.
“Medical facilities should be made available at their venue of accommodation and grounds,” said the commissioner.
“District police should provide foolproof security to participants while the managements of schools and colleges should facilitate organisers of Sindh government.”
He said that 16th Sindh Games is a mega event. It should be arranged in a befitting manner so that academic proceedings in schools/colleges should not suffer.
“Hyderabad being a hub of sports activities has been the birthplace of many a talented players and this event should discover more such heroes,” the commissioner emphasised.
Syed Rahat Ali from provincial sports disclosed that around 1,900 athletes are expected to participate from all five regions in the 16th Sindh Games. Fifty events will be organised in the extravaganza out of which 34 are meant for male athletes and 16 for female.
District sports officers Makhdoom Irshad, giving details, said 50 sporting contests will be held at different grounds in different places.
“Arm-wresting, athletics, baseball, bodybuilding, chess, sepaktakraw, softball and volleyball would be played in Public School ground and auditorium. Badminton competitios will be held in Nazir Hussain Badminton Hall in Afzal Ground, Latifabad; basketball, hockey and wanjhwatti in Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Stadium, Latifabad; boxing and muaythai at Hazara Boxing Club Hussainabad; football and shootingball in HESCO sports complex; gymnastics in Hyderabad club/Sindh University Jamshoro; handball, netball and throw ball in police ground; judo and Ju-Jitsu in BISE office auditorium Latifabad/Mustafa ground Latifabad; kabaddi, kodi kodi, malh in Mehboob ground Latifabad; karate in Mehran Arts Council/Sindh Museum auditorium; squash in Gymkhana/Sindh Sports Board squash court; swimming in Hyderabad Club; table tennis in Barkat Bhai table tennis hall; Niaz Stadium, taekwondo at skating club Latifabad-8 near Apwa girls school; tennis in WAPDA colony court; weightlifting and wrestling in Mustafa ground Latifabad/Muslim College Hirabad and wushu in Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary School Latifabad.
