ATTOCK, Nov 27: The District Police Board (DPB) has recommended reinvestigating a rape-cum-kidnapping case in which four persons allegedly picked up a teenage girl and later sexually assaulted her.

Earlier, the Jand police in their charge-sheet submitted in the court declared the accused innocent and sought to withdraw the case.

Sources told Dawn on Monday that the DPB recommendation came in second week of this month after it thoroughly investigated the case on the complaint filed by the girl's father with the then district police officer (DPO), Mohammed Hilal Khan, in the first week of October.

The father in his complaint showed lack of trust in Jand police, alleging the SHO and the investigation officer (IO) of the police station struck an underhand deal with the accused.

The DPO carried out investigation and came up with a preliminary report in which he said the police officials had shown leniency to the accused with a purpose.

In pursuance of the inquiry report, he had suspended the SHO and IO of Jand police station on October 10.

SP Investigation Abbass Majeed Khan Marwat is reinvestigating the case, sources said.

The incident took place on June 13 when the accused kidnapped the girl and raped her at gunpoint with the alleged support of the IO of Jand police.
