PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government wants the private sector to take part in the provision of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) by venturing with the public sector for contributing to development of the province.
This was stated by provincial Technical Education Minister Nawabzada Mehmoodzeb Khan during a national seminar on ‘Public Private Partnership for Vocational Training’ here.
Skill Development Council, Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority in collaboration with TVET Reform Support Programme and GIZ organised the seminar.
According to a news release issued here, TVET experts, officials from the training institutions, industrialists and representatives of different chambers of commerce and industry participated in the seminar.
The main purpose to organise the seminar was to promote technical education through public-private partnership and explore the avenues for replicating already successful models in the province.
Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) presented some of their existing models of public-private partnership.
The minister said the government was ready to make ventures with the private sector, including the industry, and that skill development and modernisation of the sector was its top priority.
He announced to replicate PVTC model in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed the relevant officials to work out modalities for similar arrangements in the province.
Mr Nawabzada said he would shortly seek the chief minister’s approval for the purpose.
He said many steps had been taken by the government to improve the quality of training and equip the people with employable skills.
The minister said the chief minister had already announced the establishment of a technology university in the province to provide upward mobility to the TVET graduates.
Professor Shakil Ahmad, KP TVET Secretary Faisal Ijaz, PVTC Chairman Sajid Naseer Khan, PVTC Managing Director, Chairman of Skill Development Council Peshawar Mohammad Javed, former provincial chief secretary Abdullah and National Deputy Coordinator of TVET Reform Support Programme Raja Saad Khan also spoke on the occasion.
