KARAK, Nov 30: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul has directed the Karak district government to get local social welfare department office vacated for time being to provide offices to administration of Khushal Khan Khattak University. He also asked the authorities concerned to make arrangements for start of the university classes from January 15.

Mr Gul and vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Ibrahim Khattak, visited the project site near Karak Development Authority here on Friday. District revenue officer Ali Mohammad briefed the minister about progress on the project.

The minister asked the revenue department to demarcate 3,000 kanals for the university to launch work on the project without delay. He directed the district government to arrange for offices of the university administration so as to ensure start of classes from Jan. 15, 2013. Besides, the revenue department was also asked to complete land acquisition as soon as possible.

POLIO BOYCOTT: Residents of Ghar Kallay and adjacent areas on Friday briefly boycotted the ongoing polio vaccination campaign in protest against transfer of a teacher from primary school of the locality. They demanded that the teacher should be repatriated to the same school.

The residents asked the health department officials that they would not let them administer polio vaccines to their children until their demand was met.

On this the district coordination officer, Karak, asked the education department to meet demand of the people of Ghar Kala to ensure smooth polio campaign. Later, executive district officer (education) Haziqur Rehman visited the area and assured the residents that the teacher would be re-transferred to the local primary school. Following his assurance the residents ended their strike and health officials administered polio vaccines to children below five years of age.
