Pakistani workers dye thread at a factory in Lahore. The country is the world’s fourth-largest producer of cloth and the industry accounts for 60 per cent of export revenue according to official data.
But shortages are heaping pressure on Pakistan’s crippled and debt-ridden economy. — Photos and Text by AFP

Pakistan is also the fourth largest producer of dairy products in the world. The country has great potential in many fields, plenty of natural resources and human potential. However, the need of the hour is better governance and some measures to contain corruption.

An irony is that Faisalabad is the national hub of cloth and textile industry followed by Karachi. The title says about the cloth industry of Pakistan whereas the content covers only Lahore!!!
its yarn dyeing not cloth manufacutring i hope first change the subject of pictures better to understand the perosn with yarn and cloth
Dawn paper should be notify us about taxes and subsidies situation in Pakistan of every day…
please work about it .
China is the First, India is Second, and USA is the Third then comes Pakistan.
Good to know that Dawn has started to talk most about Pakistan; and stopped reviewing Bollywood and related stories…..Dawn is national newspaper and must play a role….building positive image of Pakistan and making Pakistani know that our Pakistan has so many good things….so many good people, writers etc…..please keep building a positive Pakistan in the hearts of Pakistanis…..Great Pictures of Great hardworking Pakistanis…..Pakistan Zindadbad…..Paindabad….
Exactly….hope they get it
Dawn could have done a better job in order to portray Pakistan as the 4th largest producer of ‘Cloth’ as here they are showing pictures of a third class factory who is actually doing dyeing of ‘yarn’ instead.
The tragedy is that for even reporting something about their own country dawn use pictures from AFP (French news agency) , Reuters (British news agency) or AP (American news agency). Which clearly have not been helping building positive image of Pakistan. As can be seen from this picture (& many others) that instead of showing some world class textile facility from Karaachi or Faisalabad. They showed this local yarn dyeing stall. And unfortunately dawn just refered this picture instead of taking it on their own. Every country’s newspapers, channels, agencies around the world show their beautiful face and try to hide their not so beautiful face, whether its some first world country or developing country. But alas its always other way around back home.
I totally agree with the two above, media is one of the biggest contributing factor in portraying an image of the country.it has some power which is depicted to the world. It can used to undermine the negative which unfortunately has been created.
