LADHA, Dec 1: Local Taliban leaders and elders of Ahmadzai Wazir tribe in South Waziristan asked the Mehsud tribesmen on Saturday to leave their territory by Dec 5 and warned that stern action would be taken against them if they failed to comply with the decision.

Displaced people and militants belonging to the Mehsud tribe should leave Ahmadzai Wazirs’ area within five days. Otherwise, they will be expelled, a jirga decided.

Members of the peace committee, clerics, tribal elders and the Taliban attended the jirga. Pro-government Taliban `commander’ Mullah Nazir also participated in the proceedings of jirga held at Habib Plaza in Wana Bazaar.

The jirga told local people to expel Mehsud IDPs (internally displaced persons) and their armed supporters before the expiry of the deadline.

In case any person violated the decision, he would pay a fine of Rs1 million and his house would be set on fire.

About 20,000 Mehsud IDPs have been living in rented houses, government buildings and with host families since 2010 when they had to leave their area in the wake of an operation launched by security forces against the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.

Mullah Nazir was injured in a suicide attack in Wana on Thursday.

Announcements were made through loudspeakers in Wana, Karikot, Dabbkot and adjoining villages to inform people about the decision of jirga.
