LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday that all the mobile phone companies are bound to adopt a biometric data system within three months in order to sell cellphone SIMs in the country.

No mobile phone SIM will be sold by any unconcerned person or at shops in future, he said adding that a law would shortly be introduced in this regard.

Talking to the media in Okara, Punjab on Sunday, Malik said that motorcycles and mobile phones have become tools for the terrorists and that’s why the government has been imposing bans on them for a while to ensure the safety of people.

To a question, Malik said carrying out operation against banned outfits in Punjab is the responsibility of the provincial government and the federal government was prepared to extend cooperation if the provincial government decided to do so.

To another question, the minister said that Karachi is the financial hub of the country and cannot be left at the mercy of miscreants. The government is serious in maintaining peace in Karachi and the Army could be called in too if needed.

He said Quetta and Karachi are being targeted by the miscreants as both cities have a big role in the economy of Pakistan.

COMMENTS

  1. Pakistani public is not yet responsible enough to handle these modern tools.Literacy rate of Pakistan is just 28%

  2. useless ministers .. and rangers in city is problem .. and when gangesters fire steel bullets at police and police cant even get into their area .. that is problem ..

  3. This is a misguided approach by Rehman Malik who has failed on all occasions to safeguard the lives and properties of Pakistani citizens. Requiring that citizens provide biometric data to private telecommunication companies is an unprecedented attack on privacy of the citizens. It shows that the government has no clue how to tackle the issue of domestic terrorism and will attempt anything to show that it is trying to do something. Can anyone seriously believe that providing biometric identification to obtain a SIM card will curb terrorism? Rehman Malik is a comedian!!!

  4. Even ambulances can be used by terrorist and that does not mean that the state has the power to begin terrorising them too.

  5. Rehman Malik always come s up with an excuse on law and order and why it is happening and he is not being able to control..If the public cannot use their motor cycle and mobile phone s now why he did not think of it a few years back why now? It is high time he resigned for people can see writing on the wall for PPP and their henchmen.

  6. Great lets blame motor cyles and phones for terrorism? What about our state sponsored training camps? What about our mosques brain washing and filling our young with hate? Hmm no i think you are right it is the motorcyle and mobiles which are to blame!

  7. I agree to mobile phones control but motorcycle is poor man transport. If the govt gives good alternate public transport system, no one would bother buying a bike

  8. Why not block them, guess what they also use electrical wires too so block those, people in pak can live under rocks like centuries ago and politicians can live in their mansions. Did your cell got shutoff Mr. Minister?
As a interior Minister have you taken any responsibility?

  9. Motorcycles and mobile phones becoming tools for terrorists: Malik…

Yes sure… but so does police…

  10. Yes, Malik is right up to great like 80% extent. We must control / cheks motorbikes and mobile phones to save the lives. But more serious is the weapons lisense. Every baby before birth expect two mobile phones, one motorbike and one kalanishkofe. Nation wants to see the politicians like Nawaz Sharif and Zardari a kashkol in leaders hand to feed the nation. What we are doing. Malik can U please provide free 19 crores motorbikes, 38 crores mobile phone, 76 crores sims and 10 crores guns to this nation to kill the nation.

  11. “Motorcycles and mobile phones becoming tools for terrorists”, and so does the petrol, which goes in their motorcycles, and food, which give them necessary calories to …
    .
In fact, the biggest security risk is the Interior Minister himself.

  12. Neither it is motorcycles nor the mobile phones, it is people which you are not so far able to control. Order a curfew, there would be no crime.

  13. NO. That’s wrong. When one side is fighting a war they fight with whatever weapons are available.
Malik does not realize he has an internal war on his hands.
The message is, “Pakistan leaders have caused this violence so come over to our side and defeat them.”
