Though people from the Indian film industry attribute the famous song Dama Dum Mast Qalandar to Runa Laila, it is an old Sufi number which has been sung and performed in the subcontinent for many years.

News is that Indian film director Nikhil Advani has got the rights for the song for one of his upcoming films and vocalist Mika (brother of Daler Mehdi) will be singing its new version composed or rearranged by the trio Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. However, Runa Laila has a lot to do with the popularity of the track as she truly sang it with all her heart and soul. If Mika is able to do even 50 per cent justice to it, it will be a treat to listen to. Otherwise…
