LAHORE, Dec 2: Three-year-old dark-bay filly Divine Angel revealed exceptional promise by winning the Blue’s Maid Cup during the 13th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Success for Tauqir Ahmed-trained Divine Angel seemed very much on the cards as she took a fine start heading the 10-runner field at a fast pace to finish about two lengths ahead of long chaser filly Winning Habits at the winning post in the event run over 1,200 metres.

Winning Habits was a bit slower in the initial stages of the race and when she staged a come back to catch up with front runner Divine Angel she could not find sufficient steam and was finally was beaten to second spot.

Lady Macbeth and Royal Fairy completed the frame to make it an all fillies affair.

Backed at attractive odds of 2-1, this was Divine Angel’s third successive triumph as she clocked relatively a fast timing of one minute 13 4/5 over the distance in the sixth race of the day.

Sunday’s racing saw the famous proverb ‘old is gold’ proved true when the 11-year-old chestnut mare Princess Of Sialkot belied all calculations to register an upset victory in the opening race.

In a front-running style the mare defeated three-year-old bay colt Nadir Prince who was heavily backed by racing punters. The winning mare was trained by Shazer John.
