MITHI, Dec 2: Sindh Food Minister Mir Nadir Magsi roared to victory in the Thar Desert Rally on Sunday with a scintillating drive through the scenic landscape in the race involving 27 vehicles in four different categories.

The route, which ran through many villages in the desert, had to be covered twice, totalling a distance of 220km.

Nadir Magsi won the category ‘A’ event as he covered the distance in a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes and 57 seconds. Asad Marwat stood second, clocking 2: 24.35 with Nadeem Naeem third in 2:35.08.

Karachi’s Roni Patel stood first in category ‘B’, finishing in 2:14.37. Jam Kamal was second in 2:15.27.

In category ‘C’, Ali Magsi stood first, clocking 2:24.16. Zafar Magsi covered the distance in 2:26.49 to finish second while Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Chawla stood third, finishing in 2:28.11.

Khan Mohammad took the honours in category ‘D’, covering the distance in 2:32.23.

The winner in each category bagged Rs250,000 with the second-placed finisher getting 150,000 and the third-placed finisher getting richer by 100,000.
