HYDERABAD, Dec 2: Physically-challenged persons held a demonstration on Sunday in protest against problems being faced by them.

Carrying banners and placards, they gathered outside the local press club under the banners of Special Social Welfare Organisation and chanted slogans against the government. SSWO president Mohammad Rafique Rajput, vice-president Hussain Ahmed Ansari and joint secretary Imran Akhtar led the protest held on the eve of the International Day of Disabled People to be observed on Dec 3.

The protesters, including men and women, said they were living from hand to mouth because they were unemployed. They accused the government of not providing them their two per cent quota in jobs, adding that they had been protesting and fighting for their basic rights for years.

They said there were over 2,500 disable persons only in Hyderabad and more than 100,000 in Sindh. They said the government sectors were not implementing the quota of two per cent allocated for the disable people.

They said special persons had to face transportation problems, therefore, the government should announce a scheme under which they could get some locally-manufactured motorcycles to move around and run their daily affairs.
