THE natural gas supply for domestic/CNG use in the lower part of Badin district, particularly in Golarchi, Badin, Tando Bago, Pangrio, Kadhan and many other small towns and villages, has gone worst during the last few months. This natural gas consists of huge amount of nitrogen gas which badly affects the overall btu of the natural gas.

The normal natural gas, which is provided to customers, consists 1020 btu/scf due to high ratio of methane in it but for the last few months its quality has deteriorated greatly. When SSGC authorities were contacted in Badin, they said the present byus are around 870 btu/scf.

Owing to this abnormality in the gas system, owners of CNG - driven vehicles are also taking a huge burden on their pockets.

Earlier the mileage of a full CNG cylinder was 160 - 170 km, now it is hardly 100km, beside that vehicles have lost pickup and acceleration.

Vehicle owners are frequently visiting technicians for proper results of the CNG system but many are unaware of the root cause. This is resulting in financial loss and also that their vehicle engines are getting destroyed.

On the other hand, domestic bills have also increased substantially. However, CNG station owners’ profits have doubled because they are paying less to the SSGC for low quality gas but they are charging more on per kg from customers.

The higher authorities of the SSGC and Ogra and the minister for petroleum and natural resources are requested to take notice of the situation and make arrangements for the supply of good quality gas to this part of the country. Not only that, but pricing should be adjusted according to the quality of the gas. Moreover, compensation should be made to all customers.
