LAHORE, Dec 4: Model Town investigation police failed to find any clue to the attackers who critically injured a female Swedish social worker, Bargeera Almby, at her doorstep on Monday.
SSP (investigation) Babar Bakht Qureshi said the victim, who was still critical at the Jinnah Hospital, had yet to give her statement to the police. He said two police teams were investigating the matter from different possible angles, including her NGO and missionary work, crime against property and terrorism.
Ms Almby — the 70-year-old managing director of the social wing of Full Gospel Assemblies of Pakistan (FGA Church) — was attacked when she reached her home in a car from her Kot Lakhpat office at around 2pm.
Chief spokesman for the FGA Church Liaquat Qaiser told Dawn that Ms Almby who had been running various social projects in Pakistan for the last 38, was still on ventilator at the hospital as her lungs suffered injuries. Quoting doctors, he said the victim was still unconscious. He said the motive of the attack was unclear and the police had so far recorded statements of Ms Almby’s driver, watchman and some others.
Mr Qaiser said there was no apparent reason for taking the attack as a robbery bid as the foreign currency the victim was carrying was brought by her driver from a money changer.
