LAHORE, Dec 4: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan has again assured his party’s ‘old guards’ that tickets will be awarded on merit.

“We will award tickets to only those who are elected by the party members on merit. Parliamentary boards will take decision (on awarding tickets) with substantial input from district organisations,” he told a party meeting here on Tuesday.

He made it clear that all members would have to comply with the party rules and go along for creating a new Pakistan.

He said the PTI would introduce a new local bodies system and purge the country of looters and swindlers and added he was confident the dream would be realised in the next few months.

The holding of intra-party elections reflected the commitment the PTI leadership had with true democratic traditions and the will to hold on to its ideology against all odds, he added.

He said the successful first phase of election within the PTI was a new chapter in the country’s history.

“These are the first-ever intra-party elections held in the subcontinent, smashing the negative tradition of nominating office-bearers by the dictatorial party heads,” he said. — Staff Reporter
