KARACHI, Dec 5: Condemning the demolition of a Hindu temple in the Doly Khata area of Garden, various civil society organisations on Wednesday demanded a judicial probe into the incident and that the religious place be reconstructed immediately.

A large number of people belonging to different faiths, including women, participated in a protest demonstration jointly organised by the Alpha Human Rights Care Association, the Sindh Social Media Forum and the Sindh Secular Samaj outside the Karachi Press Club.

They were raising slogans and carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands, including protection to the minority community.

Speakers at the demonstration said that such acts created a sense of insecurity among members of the minority community.

They demanded that the officials whose discriminatory attitude had led to the demolition of the temple be taken to task so that no other official could take such actions against the minorities.

They said that the Hindu community was already feeling unsafe, particularly following the kidnapping and forced conversions of their young girls, and with this brutal act their feeling of insecurity had further increased.

They demanded that an inquiry headed by a judge of the high court be instituted so that the truth could be uncovered and those found guilty were taken to task in accordance with the law.

They also demanded that steps be taken so that tolerance level in the society was increased and an environment of love and peace could prevail in the country.

They said that while the Constitution guaranteed equal rights for all citizens, minority communities were denied of their constitutionally guaranteed rights.
