Enmity claims two lives

MARDAN, Dec 7: Two people were killed and two others were injured when armed men entered a house and opened fire on the inmates in Shergarh here on Friday.

The police said that the families of Jamal Shah and Mutasil ran a dispute over a women’s issue in the Shamelaat locality of Shergarh for the last few days. They said that the accused Mutasil along with his sons stormed the house of his opponent, killing Jamal Shah and his relative Sulaiman on the spot, while his brother Sufaid Shah and wife Shaheen received bullet injuries. The accused escaped from the area after the incident.

The Shergarh police station registered a case against the accused and started investigation.—Correspondent

Owner closes school

MARDAN, Dec 7: A government primary school for girls functioning in a rented building in the Seray Barichum area has been closed by the landlord due to non-payment of rent by the education department.

Sources said on Friday that the house was rented for Rs30,000 per month for the government girls primary school Seray two months ago. The house owner closed the building after the education authorities failed to pay the rent.

Residents said that students were astonished when they reached the school in the morning and found it closed. Despite repeated attempts, the education officials could not be reached for their comment.—Correspondent

PSF women wing head quits

PESHAWAR, Dec 7: President of the women wing of People’s Students Federation (PSF), Chitral, Bibi Jan on Friday announced to resign from basic membership of the party along with her supporters.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, Bibi Jan said she was student of Government Girls Degree College Chitral and worked for strengthening PSF and PPP for past many years but the leadership always discouraged her.

“There is no place for sincere and dedicated workers in PPP otherwise the leadership will have taken notice of the problems being faced by the activists in Chitral,” she said and added PPP provincial president of women wing Asma Alamgir, who is also prime minister’s special advisor, had thrice visited Chitral and promised to provide a bus to the college but failed to materialise her commitment.—Bureau Report

30 injured in roof collapse

KHAR, Dec 7: At least 30 spectators watching a match were injured when the roof of a shop collapsed in Inayat Killi on Friday.

According to Bajaur Levies and residents, concluding ceremony of the cricket match was underway at a playground when the roof of a shop adjacent to the ground collapsed.

They said about 50 spectators were sitting on the rooftop of the shop when the incident occurred. The people present on the occasion immediately started rescuing the spectators from wreckage. The injured were taken to the agency headquarters hospital Khar.

An official told Dawn three members of the organising committee of the match had been arrested.—Correspondent

Petition against CNG closure

MINGORA, Dec 7: The legal fraternity on Friday moved court against the closure of CNG stations for the last few weeks in Swat.Various lawyers jointly filed a writ petition at the court of district and sessions judge (consumer protection court, Swat) against the owners of CNG stations for not complying with the apex court orders.

A lawyer told reporters the owners of ten CNG stations and engineer in-charge of SNGPL Saidu Sharif, Swat were made respondents in the case. He said owners of CNG stations were openly violating section 13 of Consumer Act 1997. He said SNGPL authorities had also kept mum over the constant closure of the gas stations despite uninterrupted supply to these stations. —Correspondent

‘PML-N to win elections’

PESHAWAR, Dec 7: PML-N central general secretary Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said the government has failed to come up to the masses’ expectations, claiming his party will emerge the largest one in the next general elections.

Speaking at a public meeting at Mera Kachoori here on Friday, the PML-N leader said the recent result of the by-elections in Punjab was a reflection of the peoples’ love for PML-N.

Mr Jhagra said the rampant corruption had weakened foundations of the country during the tenure of incumbent government and now the masses wanted a change. He claimed only Mian Nawaz Sharif had the ability to steer the country out of the present crisis.—Bureau Report

Thalassaemia patient seeks help

ALPURI, Dec 7: An eight-year-old boy awaits financial assistance to help fight against the fatal disease of thalassaemia as the only option left for his survival is undergoing bone marrow transplant.

After going through several blood transfusions every 25 days since when he was six months old, Hilal Khan’s spleen got infection and it was removed through operation in 2010 in Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad.

With growing age the boy’s life is at stake as the continuous blood transfusion could result in malfunctioning of his liver and could also damage his heart due to an increase of iron level in the body. The bone marrow transplant, only possible at CMH Rawalpindi or Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, costs Rs3.2 million. The boy belongs to Hutal village of Thakot tehsil in Battagram. His uncle told this correspondent they sought help from every person in the government and NGOs but to no avail. —Correspondent
