KARACHI, Dec 10: A suspected terrorist recorded on Monday his confessional statement before the court of a judicial magistrate in the Orangi Town twin blasts case.
At least two people were killed and over a dozen others were injured in the explosions at an hour-long interval outside an Imambargah in Orangi Town on Nov 21.
Earlier, the investigating officer moved an application in court and stated that the suspect was ready to willingly record his confession and the court allowed the plea.
Qari Attaullah, said to be associated with a banned militant outfit, was produced before the court on Monday to record his testimony in twin blasts case.
After completing legal formalities, the judicial magistrate (west) Mohammad Afzal Roshan recorded the confessional statement of the suspect under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code.
The suspect deposed that he and Gul Mand parked an explosives-laden motorcycle at a tyre repair shop adjacent to Imambargah and also placed an explosives-filled block in the front garden of the targeted place.
He testified that their accomplices, including Gul Mohammad Masood, Musaffar Khan and Imam, were present in a vehicle nearby and left the place with their partners after the explosive had been planted.
Qari Attaullah also confessed to his involvement in a blast near an Imambargah in Abbas Town and in planning for suicide attacks on the main Ashura procession on M.A. Jinnah Road.
He claimed that he visited Waziristan for training and had also gone to Afghanistan for Jihad.
He said his accomplices used to pay him between Rs5,000 and Rs10,000 on a regular basis.
After recording the statement, the magistrate sent the suspect to jail custody on judicial remand till Dec 13 and directed the IO to file charge-sheet in the court concerned till next date.
A case was lodged under Sections of 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempt to commit murder), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 3/4 of the Explosive Substance Act read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The crime investigation department claimed to have arrested Qari Attaullah after a shoot-out with militants in Manghopir on Muharram 10. They seized an explosives-laden car and also killed his accomplice, Gul Mand.
