LAHORE: An additional district and session judge on Tuesday sought record of toxic syrup case from Shahdara police by December 14 on bail applications of the three accused.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Anjum Raza passed the order on bail applications of Fida, Abdul Rauf and Rizwan.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel pleaded the court to grant bail to the accused as they were innocent and falsely implicated in the matter.

However, police failed to produce record of case today. The court adjourning the matter till December 14 sought the record.

Police had registered a case under sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code after 19 people died of consuming poisonous cough syrup.

The three accused, including a distributor and two shopkeepers, were taken into custody.

It is pertinent to mention that the court had already granted interim bail to factory owner Khalid Saleem Mian, accused of producing toxic syrup.
