LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the contempt of court petition over President Asif Ali Zardari's dual office until Dec 14  while instructing the petitioner to complete his arguments, DawnNews reported.

A five-member bench led by Chief Justice of the LHC, Justice Umar Ata Bandial resumed the hearing over the case pertaining to the dual offices held by President Zardari.

Petitioner on the case Advocate A.K. Dogar, while giving his arguments, said that he had approached the court for the implementation of the Constitution and not to get any one rewarded with punishment.

Barrister Dogar further said that under the parliamentary system of the government, the president was powerless and had no immunity over contempt of court proceedings.

Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh said that approaching the court over the issue of presidential immunity was mandatory.

Government lawyers earlier requested the court to postpone the hearing, due to the strike observed by lawyers on the appeal of the Pakistan Bar Council and Punjab Bar Council against the national judicial policy, according to which all pending cases filed in or before 2008 must be decided before Dec 31,2012.

The court rejected the postponement request and instructed for the court proceedings to continue.
