ISLAMABAD: Upon his absence from Friday’s session of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), it gave Supreme Court registrar Dr Faqir Hussain until Dec 18 to appear before the committee in response to the summons issued for him, DawnNews reported.

Chairman PAC Nadeem Afzal Chan chaired Friday’s session of the committee, which was held in Islamabad.

Dr Hussain did not appear before the PAC despite being issued summons by the committee.

Chan said the committee had several options with regard to the matter such as contacting the apex court directly against the registrar’s non-compliance or submitting a reference in the parliament. PAC could also issue another summons for Dr Hussain in accordance with the rules, he said.

The matter would be decided on Tuesday at the next session of PAC, the committee chairman added.

Moreover, Chan said the National Assembly Secretariat could also have refused an audit like the Supreme Court did but it chose to uphold the Constitution.
