Thank you Mr Miraj for helping me recall so many forgotten experiences I had in my beloved city Gujranwala and Bakhtay Wala of which I am a proud son. I vaguely remember that Mr Donald Jeevan Mall was perhaps our English language teacher at Govt College Gujranwala in 1982-83. I had the luxury of travelling in Bao train from 1988 to 90 when I started my career in journalism in Lahore.
Govt Mahboob Alam school was in the close vicinity of Govt A D Model High School where I studied till Matric. I can still feel the warmth of the street where Mahboob Alam school located along with two branches of Attam Muhammad High Scool and technical eduction center of A D Model High School.
I want to thank you again for letting us know so much about Gujranwala particualrly the mention of Bakhtay wala. It’s not the same any more but in memories.

Excellent written by Mr Miraj. I alos belong to Gujranwala In my ealry age and during eduation i travelled many time in Babu Train and I remembered that this train was never late any day and always reach in time at its destinaion and full of passengers.What happened to the condition present trains and department where there is highly paid personnels and most technologies available.

Bao Train,however went straight from Sialkot to Lahore through Wazirabad bypassing Gujranwala.
Whereas Gujranwala is famous for it’s wrestlers I was surprised to learn that great Music Director Jhanday Khan who took another music genius Noshad Ali under his wings in his early days in Bombay was from Gujranwala.

The Babu (or Bao) train still plies on these routes. It was shut down few months ago when people in Kamonke burned the coaches of Babu train while protesting on power shortages, but last week’s news in media says that Babu train has resumed operation from Dec 20, 2012
