DADU, Dec 16: PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that proponents of Kalabagh dam should forget the water reservoir project because it cannot be built against the wishes of the people of Sindh.

Addressing a public rally on Sunday at Alipur village, some 30km from Dadu town, he said all political parties should respect the sentiments of Sindhis.

He said the PML-Q would take up the issues of all provinces because it was a major party of the country.

Chaudhry Shujaat said he would deliver the same message to people in Quetta, Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.

He said the political leaders, who had been saying for the past 30 years that they were developing consensus among the people for building the dam, were telling a lie and asked them to think about initiating projects on Thar coal and wind energy to overcome the energy crisis.

He advised political leaders not to exploit the issue and said the Kalabagh dam project was dead.

The PML-Q chief said the people of Sindh and Balochistan had been victimised because they were not getting their rights.

He said his party had always talked for rights of the people of the two provinces and would continue to do so in future.Chaudhry Shujaat said when he was the prime minister a parliamentary committee headed by PML-Q secretary general Mushahid Hussain Sayed was constituted for the welfare of people of Balochistan.

He said that his family had relations with the people of Sindh for a long time and his father Chaudhry Zahoor Ilahi spent time with the people of Sindh and nationalist leaders like G.M. Syed and Rasool Bux Palejo. He vowed to continue the relationship.

He said his party had secured second highest votes in Punjab after the PPP in the 2008 general election and in the next election it would grab majority of votes across the country.

He said the PML-Q would remain a collation partner of the PPP in future.

In his address, PML-Q secretary general Mushahid Hussain Sayed said when Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was the prime minister he gave more freedom to media.

He said the PML-Q worked in areas affected by rain and flood in the province.

Mr Mushahid said his party would contest elections on the basis of its performance because it had not sold relief goods meant for the rain-hit people.

Former chief minister and PML-Q Balochistan president Jam Mohammad Yousuf told the rally that his party would intensify its struggle for the rights and well-being of the people of Sindh and Balochistan.

PML-Q leaders Halim Adil Shaikh, Asad Junejo, Ms Farrukh Khan, Kalpana Devi and Fareeda Leghari also addressed the rally.
