TAXILA, Dec 16: Prolonged power outages in Taxila and Wah Cantonment have brought civic and commercial life to a standstill.

The residents of rural areas remain without electricity around 20 hours daily while the urban areas are facing 12-hour-lomg outages for the last a couple of days. Even if the electricity supply is restored, the voltage remains very low.

The residents while talking to this correspondent said they were facing a number of problems due to the power outages. “I have to wash the clothes of my family on Sunday but due to power cuts it is not possible,” said Rafeeda Saqib, a working woman.

Sadaf Jameel, a housewife in Gullberg Colony, said the power outages had disrupted the routine of every household.

Aksar Khan, of Muneerabad, added that his family was facing tough time due to the prolonged power cuts. Expressing anger over the situation, Malik Usman Aziz said loadshedding had badly affected the routine life.

When contacted, a spokesman for Iesco said power supply was cut off from the main control room in Islamabad due to shortfall. He said the company was striving hard to bridge the gap in the demand and supply.
