The tournament comprises six top teams from Asia – Pakistan, China, India, Oman, Malaysia and Japan.

Pakistan will face China next on Friday, December 21.

Meanwhile, defending champions India also got off to a fine start by beating China 4-0 with goals from V Raghunath, SV Sunil and Bimal Lakra.

Pakistan are firm favourites to win the Asian event after a successful Champions Trophy where they clinched a bronze medal by beating India in the play-off.

COMMENTS

  1. Pakistan must work hard in their defence

  2. Good result, but they should work harder on their defence as conceding three goals against a team like Oman is worrying.

  3. And what makes you think that this qualifies as News. Keep lowing standards and one day you will report that Pakistan Hockey defeated para Olympics hockey teams. There is no sense in sports writer in Pakistan/Dawn.

  4. Bravo. Looks like they can beat Nepal and the Penguins of Antarctica as well.

  5. Against Oman Pak consumed 3 goals. I can see big improvement!!!!!!!

  6. Great Game and Well Done Green Shirts!

I was there to watch you in the stands!

  7. Bright start and good scoring. Large scoring against weaker teams will bring accuracy in scoring against tough teams. The opponents did prove to be the other half of the story. They scored three goals against a tough teams defence. Too many goals were allowed by the team, this will lead to easy goals scored by the tough teams forward line. One or two goals is acceptable when playing against a team like Oman, and scoring eight goals, but three is a crossing border line to make the other team feel that they can compete and get tougher. Psychological aspect of the game. Congratulations.

  8. Good performance by the Pak team, but 3 against from a team with no standing like Oman, should be a matter of worry and reflection to plan well against strong teams. All other teams particularly India and Malaysia can clinch an upset win. Just a word of caution.

  9. Oman? Where is that?
