KARACHI: Pakistan cruised past China 5-2 in their second match of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Doha, Qatar on Friday.
Waqas Sharif and Abdul Haseem scored two goals each while Shakeel Abbasi scored one to guide the Greenshirts to their second consecutive victory in the tournament.
In the opening match, Pakistan had trounced Oman 8-3, while India had beaten China 4-0.
Pakistan’s next match is against Malaysia on Sunday, December 23.
The tournament comprises six top teams from Asia – Pakistan, China, India, Oman, Malaysia and Japan.
Pakistan are firm favourites to win the Asian event after a successful Champions Trophy where they clinched a bronze medal by beating India in the play-off.

Its nice to see Pakistan wining and scoring goals. Only worrying factor our team is conceding goals and ability to defend. Penelty Corner conversion another factor to be accounted for. These days no team can be taken lightly and can not be underestimated. Pakistan should continue with good effort and strive for gold in Asian Champions Trophy. India is the toughest team we’ll face and any victory against them will savour well for our nation. Good luck to Pakistan Hockey Team for this tournament.
Good play by Green Shirts!
Need to tighten up the defence in the first half in particular…..
Not a wise thing to do. We should exercise restraint and use our judgement.
We need China, should not humiliate them anywhere, not even on a sporting event.
