The Mayans never predicted an apocalypse, it’s just that their calender — the one of longest period, [they used three of them for different purposes] ended at a time that coincided with the 21st of December, 2012. It were the doomsayers of recent times that predicted the end of the world on this date, linking it to the ending of the Mayan calendar. But, just as our calender starts anew after the 31st December each year on Jan 1, the Mayan calendar too has now entered into another epoch.
