ISLAMABAD, Dec 23: Insaaf Lawyers Federation (ILF), the lawyer wing of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, announced on Sunday it would contact national and international forums of justice and lawyers associations around the globe to seek their help in its struggle to get drone attacks stopped.
Unveiling its plan against drone strikes at a press conference, PTI’s senior vice-president Hamid Khan Advocate said the ILF had reached the conclusion that the government of Pakistan was hand in glove with the US and as such was equally responsible for the deaths of innocent women and children who lost their lives in drone attacks.
He said rallies would be held and members of the ILF would file writ petitions in courts against the drone strikes.
“Drone attacks are a clear violation of law, so we will contact international bar associations, including American Bar Associations, and will tell them that killing 100 women and children along with one terrorist should not be called ‘collateral damage’ and the so-called war against terrorism should be stopped,” Mr Khan said.
“On 6th October we marched to Waziristan in protest against drone attacks but the government tried to create hurdles in our way and even declined visa to some foreigners who wanted to join us,” he alleged.
He said if PTI came to power every step would be taken to stop drone attacks. Nato countries would be contacted to play their role in convincing the US to change its policy and finally Pakistan army would be told to down the unmanned planes.
In reply to a question about Allama Tahirul Qadri, who held a big rally in Lahore on Sunday, Mr Khan said if he (Mr Qadri) wanted to stop elections PTI would oppose it.
He said that the assassination of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s senior minister Bashir Bilour was unfortunate but the incident must not be used to postpone elections.
Answering a question, he said like India the PTI would set up a commission to resolve such issues as the Seraiki province.
ILF members Farrukh Dall, Qaiser Abbas Shah, Adnan Randhawa, Mohammad Asad, Nadia Latif, Fida Ahmed, Choudhry Zaheer and Maqsood Ali were present.
