KARAK, Dec 24: Unidentified persons fired a rocket at the dehydration plant of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) in Alwargi Banda area of Karak on the night between Sunday and Monday.

Police said that the rocket, fired at the plant by unidentified attackers, hit an oil tanker that was parked inside the facility at the time of attack. It caused a huge fire as the tanker was full of crude oil, they added.

The fire brigade reached the scene of occurrence and extinguished the fire after hectic efforts of one hour. No loss of life was reported in the attack, police said.

The sources said that it was second rocket attack on the OGDCL plant of Alwargi. One month ago, two rockets had been fired by unidentified persons at the facility. However, both the rockets had missed the target, they added.

District Police Officer Sajjad Khan, when contacted, said that police present on the spot retaliated to the attack and fired in the direction from where the rocket was fired.

The official said that police had issued standard operation procedure to the company for security but it was not implemented so far. He said that there were some loopholes in the internal security system of OGDCL. The DPO added that police were trying to provide security to oil and gas companies, carrying out activities in the district.
