RAWALPINDI, Dec 24: A girl committed suicide while a pedestrian was shot dead here on Monday, police said.

The girl, the daughter of a private security guard and resident of Gul Afshan Colony, was scolded by her mother for not taking interest in her Quran lessons.

Later in the evening, the mother found her daughter in her room vomiting, and eventually losing consciousness. She had swallowed poisonous pills.

The girl was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where she died.

In another incident, a man was shot dead by two motorbike riders at Chatri (Umbrella) Chowk in the Airport police limits.

The victim, in his 40s, belonged to Mohmand Agency.

Inspector Raja Rafaqat, who is investigating the incident denied that it was a robbery attempt, as nothing was taken away from the victim.

“It was a murder connected to some rivalry,” Inspector Rafaqat said.
