LONDON: Tens of thousands of people have signed a petition calling for British CNN host Piers Morgan to be deported from the US over his gun control views.

Morgan has taken an aggressive stand for tighter US gun laws in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting.

Last week, he called a gun advocate appearing on his ”Piers Morgan Tonight” show an ”unbelievably stupid man”.

Now, gun rights activists are fighting back. A petition created Dec 21 on the White House e-petition website by a user in Texas accuses Morgan of engaging in a ”hostile attack against the US Constitution” by targeting the Second Amendment.

It demands he be deported immediately for ”exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens”.

The petition has already hit the 25,000 signature threshold to get a White House response. By Monday, it had 31,813 signatures.

Morgan seemed unfazed — and even amused — by the movement.    In a series of Twitter messages, he alternately urged his followers to sign the petition and in response to one article about the petition said ”bring it on” as he appeared to track the petition’s progress.

”If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?” he wrote.

COMMENTS

  1. Wondering how many know that the gun-lobby is a major Republican supporter, and that so many of these gun supporters are hard-core religious.

  2. Doesn’t the first amendment give people the right to express their opinion about the second amendment?? I hope the government doesn’t get bullied by the gun industry into deporting Morgan. That would be a clear step away from democracy.

  3. Deport him please deport him . So much for a bias journalist .

  4. Please send him to Pakistan to see if he can do something about gun laws there, and if he could pop over to Afghanistan…

  5. Piers Morgan is supposed to be reporting news not pushing his agenda by using his position in the media. His views do not reflect the truth nor the general consensus of the population of USA. So the question is What is he doing?

    • First, Piers’s is hosting a talk show as a commentator. He is not a news reporter. What is he doing? He is expressing his opinion just like gun nuts are expressing theirs’. So, you want to keep your second amendment but take away his freedom of speech? So much for freedom.

      • bravo Lashkar. thats a great response. People like Tyrell always take the high horse of the us constitution whenever someone looks too closely at the obviously out of date gun control provisions. Violence begets more violence. This is the fundamental tenet of society.

    • Hey Tyrell, dont think you understand, he’s got a petiton of just 65,000 + in about a week, majority of americans now are for gun control, as a journalist you must have the guts to report or you are not in the right field,

    • Mr. Tyrell..if we go by your own yard-stick, then all fox (read FAUX) news newscasters should be fired for pushing their agenda of getting Romney elected as president and demonizing Obama…they all do it..so don’t be selective..by the way name me a media outlet that is not involved in it.

    • Right. I bet you watch Fox News and think it is a good informative channel.

  6. Piers Morgan can say whatever he wants from England but he does not have a first amendment here in the united state to do subversion when foreigners come here though the media and try to overturn are bill of rights or the constitution its instant deportation.

  7. Where is the freedom of speech and beauty of democracy?

    • That people against strong gun laws can start a movement against the representative of a powerful media conglomerate and that a counter view to Morgan’s opinion, irrespective of how absurd it sounds to most people of that country is allowed to take root and is given space in public discourse IS the beauty of democracy and freedom of speech.

  8. Pakistan needs you!

  9. I am not American i 100% agree with Morgan the stats speak for themselves 35 murders on gun shooting in Britain or Australia were there is a ban.I am stunned at the responsive measure after hving those 5 to 10 yr old die.No offense but these horrific incidents will keep repeating themselves unless u introduce a total ban of guns. The stats in Uk and Australia show that.
