PESHAWAR, Dec 26: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said that delay in the upcoming general elections will plunge the country into chaos.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Wednesday, he asked the government to fulfil its constitutional responsibilities and announce schedule for general elections. In the prevailing situation, the government was left with no option but to announce general elections and steer the country out of the crises, he said.

Mr Sherpao said that his party would oppose any move aimed at delaying the general elections. He said that government had almost completed its tenure and it was duty bound to hold elections.

About the other day’s press conference of Awami National Party chief, he said if ANP had any plan to resolve the issue of militancy then it should share the same with other political parties.

Mr Sherpao said that chief minister and ANP president put forward their proposals at a time when elections were round the corner. The government should now focus on elections, he said, adding that the nation was demanding solution to their problems that was possible only through democratic process.

The QWP chief said that it was astonishing that ANP did not consider it necessary to take other political parties into confidence during its tenure. ANP asked politicians to come forward to seek solution to the problem of militancy when its government completed tenure, he added.

“It is a duty of the government to check pros and cons of the decisions, taken by it during the past over four years to uproot terrorism,” Mr Sherpao said.

He condemned the assassination of senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, saying it was an unfortunate incident and it was duty of the government to hold inquiry into the case. — Bureau Report
