KARACHI, Dec 27: The National Tariff Commission has imposed anti-dumping duties on paperboard importable from four countries Korea, Indonesia, China and Taiwan.

An announcement by the NTC on Thursday stated that the ‘definitive antidumping duty’ was imposed for five years, in rates between 4.29 to 22.24 per cent from those countries.

The announcement by the NTC said that the commission had initiated an antidumping investigation on June 26, 2009 under Section 23 of the Anti-dumping Duties Ordinance, 2000.

“Analysis showed that the domestic industry suffered material injury on account of: price under cutting, price suppression, negative effects on: inventories, return on investment, cash flow, decline in: profit, capacity utilisation and productivity”, the commission stated in its announcement.

The analysis also showed that the domestic industry also suffered some injury due to imports of paperboard from sources other than the dumped source and expansion in installed production capacity during the ‘period of investigation’, which was stated to be from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009 for ‘investigation of dumping’ and from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2009 for ‘investigation of injury’.
