KARACHI: Habib Bank Limited (HBL) steered themselves clear of the drop zone after a 6-0 demolition of already-relegated Wohaib FC in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) here on Friday.

Meanwhile, second from bottom PMC Athletico suffered a 5-0 hammering by Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to stay in the relegation zone on 21 points, two behind 14th-placed Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) with three games to go.

HBL moved to 25 points after a sterling performance at the People’s Football Stadium, going 4-0 up in the first half-hour.

Zafar Majeed opened the scoring in the 24th before Mohammad Yaqoob doubled their lead a minute later and an own goal by Wohaib defender Sami in the 28th put them in cruise control.

Yaqoob added his second on the half hour mark as a Wohaib defence looked spineless following their relegation to the Pakistan Football Federation League (PFFL) in the last game.

Mubashir scored the fifth in the 59th before Atif rounded off the scoring in the 72nd when he smashed in the sixth for an emphatic victory.

At the KPT Football Stadium, goals by Sarmad in the 35th minute and Zafar Majeed in first-half injury time knocked the stuffing out of PMC.

KPT added three more in the second-half with Mohammad Bin Younis scoring in the 54th to put them 3-0 up before two goals by Junaid Qadir in the 75th and Naveed Ahmed five minutes later put KPT into the top ten with 30 points.

Saturday’s fixture: KESC v PIA (KPT Football Stadium, Karachi).
