Bangladesh cancel Pakistan tour over security concerns

DHAKA: Bangladesh are unlikely to tour Pakistan next month due to security concerns, despite making a commitment to do so at an International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in October.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf said on Dec. 21 the BCB had confirmed a visit in January, which would have made Bangladesh the first international side to tour Pakistan since armed militants attacked the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009.
Eight Pakistanis were killed and six Sri Lanka players were wounded when gunmen fired on their coach as they were being driven to a stadium in Lahore.
“We have made a commitment to travel to Pakistan. But still there are some concerns,” said Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan at news conference on Monday.
“We have noticed the security situation in Pakistan has not improved significantly, rather deteriorated. In this circumstance, we think it will not be very wise to tour.
“We have conveyed our decision to Pakistan already. We are observing the situation. If the situation improves we will keep our commitment.”
Nazmul added that it was a very difficult decision for them to make.
“We have made a commitment to travel to Pakistan. It was even in the minutes of an ICC meeting that we will go even if it does not provide the match officials,” he said.
“So it was almost mandatory for us. But we believe that the security of players and officials are the most important thing.”
Bangladesh had agreed to send a team to Pakistan in April this year to play a Twenty20 match and one-day international in Lahore.
However, the Dhaka High Court issued a restraining order stopping Bangladesh from playing in Pakistan due to security concerns.
The BCB president added that they were ready to face possible repercussions from Pakistan, who are determined to bring international cricket back to the country.
“We are aware that Pakistan will not be happy with our decision. They might not send players in our domestic cricket, may not cooperate us in many other fields and we have to accept it,” he said.
Afzalur Rahman Sinha, a BCB member and chairman of Bangladesh Premier League governing council chairman, said the Twenty20 tournament would go ahead even if Pakistan does not allow its players to take part.
More than 50 Pakistani players were auctioned for the second edition of the league earlier this month, but media reports suggested Pakistan would not allow its players to take part unless Bangladesh decided to tour.
“We believe no one is indispensable. The tournament will go ahead if even if Pakistani players don’t come,” he said.

You cannot blame the Bangladeshis, have you seen what is happening in Pakistan, where is the law and order in the country?
Unless you guys fix your law and order situation and have your Saudi supported hoodlums under wraps, you don’t deserve to have first class cricket in Pakistan.
This what I was assure of. Thanks havens we do not share a border with them otherwise history speaks itself about their conduct.
Yes, thank heavens that the border is shared with Afghanistan.
It is not justified decision by BCC and this is influenced by the government machinery of Bangladesh. In my personal opinion PCB should stop requesting Bangladesh for the visit if they dont want to come then let them enjoy i n their own country we are also not keen to keep begging them. PCB should have strong stance on Pakistani players for not taking part in Bangladesh League, PCB should not permit any player form Pakistan to visit Bangladesh.
Government is reckless to the most evil dishonesty in the Prosecution
Jan 1, 2013 : http://www.bd.inn.com. Tobi Cadman, an expert on the international laws of war crimes as well as Bangladesh war crimes tribunal (ICT), who is working as the advisor to the accused leaders of the Bangladesh Jamate Islami draws the attention of International community including the UN Human Rights council to resolve the issues maintaining logic and justice by mentioning that Gov. is flagrantly interfering into the prosecution. He said that it became essential to issue an emergency statement from the UN Human Rights Office by expressing their concern about the evolved situation of the trial. Yesterday, on Saturday evening, he called for such statement to the international community at a crowded press conference in a restaurant of Jackson Heights of New York. During the exchange of views conference, organized on behalf of the coalition of Bangladeshi American Association, prominent human rights leader Mahtab Ahmed presented the introductory speech. Tobi Cadman said that it’s obvious from the statements of the Prime minister and the other ministers of BD that instead of proved dishonesty during the trial process, the govt. is not heeding to the situation. Even though, the activities of tribunal became questionable and there created legal circumstances to re-start the judgment, the government continued the controversial process, which is a major barrier to ensure the justice.
1——
Tobi Cadman said that the conversation between the chairman of Tribunal-1 Nijamul Haque and the Ziauddin made it clear that the tribunal was not independent from its inception. Whatever the government claimed, due to the uncorrected faults in the formation process and in the related set of laws, it’s neither an international tribunal, nor even one of domestic type. The tribunal did not follow the criminal law of Bangladesh and not even touched the boundaries of international laws. Hence, the consistent claim of the govt. to maintain the international standard of the tribunal became baseless and it is even unable to maintain the national standard of judgment. From the light of his experience of eight years as a prosecutor of war crimes tribunal of Bosnia, he said that the Bosnian Tribunal was not an international tribunal, rather which was their national tribunal. But, the Bosnian govt. took the assistance of the international law to conduct judgment. Due to the presence of international judge, international prosecutor and international investigators, no question was raised about the judgment process. But, Bangladesh govt. ignored all of the international laws to set an paradigm for the whole world. He said the resignation of the justice Nijamul Haque did not remove the problem; rather the judgment process of the tribunal has lost its acceptance. Because, the conversation between Nijamul Haque and Ziauddin exposed the name of some other justices, one prosecutor, two ministers and an organization. To resolve the dispute about the tribunal, it is essential to make a unbiased inquiry about the relation with those accomplice and only an international impartial organization can investigate such case. 2——–
-
He said, everyone has the right to know about the position and the role of Ziauddin for the sake of justice. Because, such flagrant deviation was never happened before where an external person is directing the presiding judge on every issue and he is directing the court and ruling the issues by following those instructions. There is no doubt that the justice Nijamul Haque played a controversial role during his full tenure in the tribunal. Even it was discussed about his promotion in exchange of verdict, which was sheer unethical. His discussion with Ziauddin disclosed the reason behind the curtain of his non-resignation from the post of justice on the objection of the lawyers of accused, even though the defense lawyers demanded that he cannot be the judge of the tribunal as he was related to the investigation committee of the public tribunal formed against the accused persons during the 90’s decade. Moreover, the overall scenario like the fixation of the witness during the prosecution, giving direction about what testimony will they give and so on indicates that the tribunal was formed to manipulate a cheating judgment in order to convict the leaders of the opposition with a short trial and to execute the verdict within even shorter time. 3——-
On a query, he told that during the liberation war of 1971, there happened murder of countless peoples. Counting the number, there may be a debate whether it is three lacs or thirty lacs. But, there is no disagreement that crime was committed and nobody will refuse this fact. But, this offense was not done by a single side only. All sides committed the crime. By excluding all of the sides like the key marked criminals- 195 Pakistani Army Officers, the attempt to try only one side faced the objection from the international human rights organizations. If Bangladesh is sincere about the trial, then they can bring to book the alive ones of those 195 with the help of international community. But, excluding the main offender, to declare the death sentence of the top brass of one of the opposition party of the govt. for the accused crimes will never ensure the justice, rather it will yield a dangerous consequence. Because, this judgment process is organized with a decision to punish those who are not actually responsible for accused crimes.Although, the minister and the state minister of law and the attorney general along with others are showing the logic and argument that the judgment process should be started from the stage where the Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim left it, but as those arguments and logics are not related to the situation for which Nizamul Haque resigned, the judgment should be started from the beginning. This is because of the fact that there is not a single justice in both of the tribunal who was present during the whole hearing of the case of any accused one. -4——–
Hence, according to the confinement of the law, both tribunals have to start the hearing of the case of all accused ones from the beginning and for the sake of fairness the questionable justices must be removed. But, the Tobi Cadman opined that the government is willful to give a verdict by preceding the judgment process from the existing stage and hence are showing the excessive interest to investigate Skype and e-mail hacking to hide the relatedness and guidance of extra-judicial people. Because, from the perspective of the govt. it was a conspiracy to obstacle the prosecution. During such evolved perspective, Tobi Cadman, by mentioning the irresponsible actions of Bangladesh Government, said that it is now clear like sun light that this is impossible to conduct the judgment by maintaining the national or international standard by this tribunal formed by the government. Hence, it is dire emergency for the international community to reach at a rapid decision on this issue. From: Khaled Musawwir/ Baerkat ALLAH Aman:Dhaka:01.01.13 -5—

bomb blast in karachi. and many more blast…..do u stll think about Bangladesh should visit…?
no never, who cares for Bangladesh
Good decision.
This is a Bangladeshi. I like Pakistan and Pakistani people although New Generation of Pakistan didn’t even bothered to apologize officially for what they have done in 1971. Anyway…. You do the math and tell us whether we should send our boys or not after seeing your ministers are getting killed by terrorists! You never know, may be US Drones will bomb on stadium and we really don’t want that… Good luck with your cleaning mission and hope you’ll be able to wipe off your corrupted, power hungry and “lafanga” leaders soon (pointing out Hina Scandal)………
Very sad. A fitting response is required by PCB.
Yes, a fitting response is required by PCB. That response would be to apologize for belonging to such a despicable society. Somehow, I think, the actual response will be more violence and blaming CIA, Israel, and India!
Sorry to say Mr.Zeeshan, but it would be much better if you improve the Security first then think of fitting reply…..its very easy to say that we suffer from terrorism after an attack.
only solution for improving situation of pakistan in all sectors is be secular..in future, only secular nations will survive…
Very true… Fully agree…..
Then India and Pakistan will both have the Same fate, as in former Hindu fundamentalist are ruling and in later Muslim fundamentalist are tryin to rule.
really sir..i think that s what your text books tell you. India and pak are poles apart..in political and social mindset of people and its by grace of god that india doesnt have the pak baggage no more. While india develops in every way..pak has only regressed. You do the math. It will always be secular, modern and forward looking nations that will stand the test of time. India may not be totally there but is definately moving in that direction. It has its basics right!!.
In India Hindu fundamentalists are NOT ruling as you can see /read yourself by reading Indian newspaper / article but in Pakistan no other religion are allowed to practice and killed every day is proof that Pakistan is ruled by Islamist fundamentalists including the government. All minorities in Pakistan are suffering badly including Hindu, Sikhs, Christians etc. where as in India every one enjoys the same rights, Muslims have more rights than Hindu in India.
Good riddance.
Childish …… Immature…..
