This is the best news for Pakistan in decades and a great invention by Pakistani engineers. Hopefuly, Dr. Agha Waqar can now run a car on water and biogas. Hopefully the great Pakistani scientist, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, will agree with this great news.

Indeed my house in a remote village in South India has this Bio Gas since 1981 after getting 50% subsidy from the government. It is still being used by my family. However, in many households who installed this facility, has no more cattles (cow or buffalow) due to maintenance cost and labour shortage. I am sure, for next 10 years this will work good for Pakistani villages, after that I am doubtful and may face the similar situation like my village.

Quite right. This is nothing new. I recall that over 20 years back, while working for a commercial bank we initiated a number of such projects for public benefit and installed several biogas plants in far flung areas in Baluchistan. However, lack of interest at various levels quickly killed the project.

This is really good news. Technology must have improved.
I visited my cousins in India in 1991 in a village in western U.P. They has invested heavily in a bio-gas unit, but it did not deliver, and the unit was in a state of abandon.
Bio-gas is better than burning dung cakes since much of Carbon used to disappear in smoke and Nitrogen was wasted. Now, both are preserved and returned back to earth. This is green living.

Amazing and most welcome. However, since our brained (transplanted) politicians are mostly from the villages, they will need a reorientation course on how to use their brains. Even our scientists were unable to come up with this idea to be financed by banks and businesses. Bravo and long live the NGO and Japanese government. Salams and a Happy New Year 2013.

I recall seeing ads and documentaries about Biogas and how to create the plant using relatively low technology on PTV over 20 years ago. It never ceases to amaze me that no one actually was paying attention to those and this “breakthough” is being treated as something revolutionary. Better late than never, I say.

Biogas has been around for ages. The Bunsen Burner in the Chemistry Lab used it and we had a biogas plant just behind the lab – big round something which used to go up and down. The plant has exited since twenties or earlier. It has dawned very late with us here. Good now they are using it in Sindh. Yet it can’t be better than wind or Solar. They need no fuel nor anything.
