Horse race in Lakki to celebrate New Year
December 31, 2012 by Our CorrespondentLAKKI MARWAT, Dec 30: Sports-loving residents of Ihsanpur locality will hold a horse-cart race to celebrate the New Year.
Naimatullah, a member of race committee, told this correspondent that the race would begin on Jan 3 wherein horse carters from across the province could participate. He said a two kilometres long track had been prepared for the race in Ihsanpur area between Kurram and Gambila rivers near Lakki city.
“Two carters will be allowed to sit in each cart during race which will be inaugurated by Shafqatullah Khan, the son of prominent political leader Haji Zainuddin Khan Khoidadkhel,” he maintained. He said winner and runner up horse carters will be awarded trophies and cash prizes.
BODY FORMED: Residents of Kotka Mehmood Baistkhel formed a welfare committee to press the representatives of provincial and national assemblies from the district to resolve their longstanding problems. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting the other day.
On the occasion, elders said office-bearers of the committee would meet lawmakers and other influential people to bring the problems of area people into their notice. “Besides the committee will also work for the removal of social and moral vices from the village,” they said.
NAAT KHWANI: Following the directives of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation the local administration held Na’at Khwani competitions at Jamia Masjid of old DCO office and Government Centennial Model High School for Girls in Lakki city for male and female participants.
District khateeb Maulana Abdul Wahab and tehsil Lakki khateeb Maulana Hamidullah supervised the event.
Mohammad Gul, a student of Sand Hawks Public High School, stood first in the district in under 15 years of age category. Farah Hameed of Khano Girls Model High School Lakki also clinched first position in the same category.
Zahid Noor of a seminary of Madni Jamia Masjid got first position in 15-25 years age category. Zarqaish Fatima of Khano Girls Model High School Lakki also remained first in the same category.
The position holders will participate in the provincial level competition.
